counter

So I tried to put a counter on this page because curiosity set in on how many people even glance at this site since nobody really comments. When really I would love for people to comment, hell say whatever you want...just don't name things other than show names, just because I don't want mini wars over this.

I will try and figure out who got cut and who just isn't coming back over break and gie people a heads up. I know of one show change already and it upsets me because some people don't need bigger heads. By the way i hate clicks, grad students should be beyond that at this point in their life.

done, haha...not quite

So classes are over...yippeeee. But the semester is not quite done. The last show struck yesterday and now we are getting ready for dance light which takes place in um, oh yeah...January. There is a job lead for it, but let's go ahead and do it now anyway. What the hell I got nothing else to do.

Geography of a Horse Dreamer

Horse Dreamer was not a bad show..it was short, which was good. As much as I want to watch somebody tied to a bed for an act and then crawling around barking like a dog for the next...whatever, not my type of show. Maybe I just didn;t get it. I don't know. The process seemed like a smooth one. The designer and job lead got everything accomplished that they wanted to and they worked together so nicely that I didn't have to be there (which I loved).

I enjoyed the paint treatment on the floor, it reminded me of the actual chairs in the theatre which was kind of cool...it was a nice way to draw people in and I don't know if people even realized that thats what it was.

Urinetown strike is over. A couple people came in at 8am and took the set apart and had it gone by 11, took lunch back at noon to meet the crew and finish up. Should have been relatively easy and mostly painless but It dragged on forever, the little bit of remaining set took another 5 hours. I guess that makes question what happened in the strike meeting that thought we could finish the set in the given time. Why for instance, wasn't the strike crew split in half in order to get scenery out the way, then lights, the scenery again...I feel like that would have just made some kind of sense, of well....all's done and said. Everything around here is backwards.

Tomorrow the faculty all get together to have their little meetings about people's crew grades...see who gets cut, see who should be cut but won't be. Let's face it there are certain people that are around that you have to question what the hell they have done to be around still. There are people that have graduated that make you question wether you really want a degree from the same place as them. I don;t know, just one of those days.

To much time cleaning up after other people, to much time doing work for other people, to much time thinking...

On the other hand, you know those little silver balls that fly back and forth and hit eachother on strings (no clue what they are called). They are silver, hang on strings...usually 5 balls total...how weird would it be to have one made out of pool balls? This was brought up today. I love how creative some people can be and that they use their free time to do cool projects like that.

I think the freshman are amazing, I just thought I should say that one more time before I don;t have them next semester.

Oh yeah, next semester...Nathan the Wise

That kicked into gear this semester, 2 weeks of crew are done. And I think we are ahead thanks to the skill of our overhire on the shop floor and our freshman kicking ass. Yeah freshman!

Doesn't it look like a bunch of bookshelves?

snow

Well, at least there is a nice snow this evening. Hoping to be hit a little harder so that my off campus class is cancelled tomorrow.

Urinetown...well i guess the shit finally hit the fans.

The show is amazing, and would be so much better if the sound guy didn't suck ass. Well, the sound guy no longer sucks ass because last night he got his ass kicked off the show. Our faculty member is now doing a the live mix of the mics and running the sound board. The board op was a designers worst nightmare...I believe the comment he made was "I can't wait till she leaves [reference designer] so i can mix the show for real." Problem is he can't mix worth shit. Things have to much bass, things are completely not level, way to loud, blah blah blah. The show is now 10 times for the better since he is gone.

Geography of a horse dreamer opened last night as well...good show. Lights are really nice. It might seem a little overcued, by really they have nice, smooth transitions and they draw you into the action of the play. The actors do a farely decent job as well. There is always room to grow in that department, I think in this case they are so excited to play ganster type guys, that they go full out and try to act like the reservoir dogs, and it is just a bit of over kill. I should read the director notes now that I have seen it and see what he intended.

I guess I am sound designing a show next semester, I am sure I will rip myself a few new ones for that.

Started doing my crew evaluations, I can be pretty mean, I am honest and I guess that is all i can ask of myself. A lot of crew to evaluate.

I am going to go home tonight and make CD's of show pics. Funny thing, I have only been to one photo call this semester, I am so anxious to get the hell out of here from the amount of time that I don't bother staying, I get my pics during tech runs and that is it, hope for the best. Urinetown I got some good shots, lysistrata I think i got some great ones, glass, well that was just to damn dark, chairs was the same thing over and over (one pic was enough) horse dreamer got some and will put them up tomorrow along with some nathan build shots. I forgot my cord to transfer pics to my computer so that is why the visuals are kind of lacking.

The freshman in the shop, amazing. I want them as my build crew all next semester, I would have no worries about the progress of the shows if I had them.

Well, time ti run, nite

show updates

SO, Glass meneagerie happened. Yup, it's over. Really the show was fine, but it was kind of boring as that show can be. I didn't get what the director wanted. Nuclear explosion??? I am sorry what, then why did you do it the same traditional style?

Lights were way to dark (it is not just the picture). Plus, the wrong things were being emphasized at the wrong time. I didn't get it, I just couldn't get it. I could barely sit through it, it was so incredibly frickin long, AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Urinetown finally opened. Here are some pics from the tech process.

This is lil sally looking a bit on the demented.

And here are the cops doing there awesome little dance.

Hope and Bobby standing infront of unit that only ever has oneside pointing toward the audience, but it is all good we spent like 3 days working on the other side too...

Rebels going nuts killing people...hmmm, jealous much?

learn

oh yeah, you all better learn to learn. If you want an education, it is in your hands. Questions are great but not if it is how do you do it...myabe come up with an answer yourself, even if it sucks and you know it...just to show you tried...you put some thought in it. eventually all those shitty answers will start turning into good answers. That is what school should help you do...brainstorm ideas on how to do things. Not just hand the answer on a silver platter. Theatre is great because there are no answers... so please I am bitchy, i mean busy enough...come up with your own answers for a change.

Oh yeah and listen...also a very good skill. Everything should not have to be written down on paper so i can point at it, becuase you still wouldn't see it. I can't teach you that, and neither can school. You have to care justa little and but just a little effort and not be thinking about pink daisies and purple elephants when getting directions.

regsiter

there is a point when you absolutely have to stop and look at not only yourself but your surroundings. When you get the speech about making sure you wanting the school as much as they want you and you should treat it like a marraige...they are right. The problem comes up when you get fucked by your partner but you know you really don;t want to leave but it might be the only way to get your point across.

I got a job offer...doing what I want to do, imagine that...and my school sucks so incredibly much they don't even have the bals to say no. Instead they say no through a pocket veto. It's called sitting on your ass not caring about your students. You want to kow why people don't want to come to this program, take a good long look at yourself. You expect somebody to sit around and free labor for you...and that is all. Nobody here actually gives a shit about you or how your life is going. Correction some people do, but not the people that should.

Having a team of people to work all the shows is fine, hell, it's great! But we are not free labor. I am sorry that you have no grads, but I think we work enough hours in the week. And no, we don't need to work shows that you are getting paid for. Oh, unless of course you want to pay us to.

BASICALLy, this is bullshit. I have not registered for next semester, my last semester. What would happen if I didn;t come back. Would it actually matter? Fuck your answers of but then who would do the work. Right now even if I am here, I won't so the work. 4 hours a day. I can be just like you.

School should not be politics...I mean of course it always is to some extent...but don't you think your own advisors should be helping you? Wanting you to succeed, isn't that what makes them look better. The kids running the world. Someone to go pro and say oh yeah, I learned that at "Insert school name". Not to go oh, I learned that by fucking up once. Because that is where our show education is coming from. Let's see how wrong it can go before stepping in...how the hell does that make people happy or learn?

But yeah for you actors, not complaining that you get the time off, I mean who needs a build crew anyway? The problem is that is is coming up right now. We have you for 2 more days and then you are gone for winter break, I don't give a shit about next week, I have finals too. And oh yeah I have been working for um, 16 weeks straight so kiss my ass. But oh you advisors...you want to give them the time off, then fine you come fix it. Don't tell me that my people that have been working all semester can come in and make it up...NOT ACCEPTABLE!

you want me to advertise for you? Yeah, sure...great acting program.

not even gonna look for my typos
