Weekend in the Theatres

Well, no build crew to report in about over the weekend, but there are 2 techs going on. Dance Light which is taking place in the studio space now has some dancers for its light.

There are of course some...
odd pieces.

But there are also so
very well put together pieces

And there are some that look
better in person

More of the well put together piece...

....

Nice lines...

Great shadow play in this piece
(same piece as above)

There will be more pictures eventually. It was first time in this low light with new camera am working out the...quirks...of it.

Meanwhile in on the main stage the opera is loaded in and ready for action. First tech was sunday night (piano tech) with monitors coming on late because, you do need to turn on the surge protector in order to make power go to the TV, sigh.

The tall scary shelf
That out quite lovely.

Nice lighting on the tent

if you closely enough...
this hole resembles a lighting instrument
new ceiling has been installed

but it could have been worse than having to remake that...

it could be my hand in the door
trying to get keys i didn't mean to return
thank you for staff calling security and
getting us access.

and that is the weeknd.

slow start

So classes have kicked into gear and so has crew. Tuesday night seemed to go fine, it took a couple hours to bolt a few things togther and screw on some legs and move some stuff around, really nothing terribly exciting but a nice way to get back into it.

Last night was interesting. It took 5 or 6 people 4 hours to do this...

The blue arrows are pointing to what got done. A double layer of plywood screwed to 3 sides of 1 flat. So not even 1 flat finished and 7 more to go plus lightboxes and an arena deck to go...at this rate, it doesn't matter that we finished last semester ahead of schedule, scenery will fall into its normal rate of being behind...unless something kicks into gear.

Then the after crew the job lead was up most of night working on more drafting instead of other people being able to work on it during crew, sucks to be her.

5 more days till classes

Nathan the Wise...

Well, paints is still painting with almost the 2 big drops done...although there are still 2 more big ones and then a bunch of medium size ones (only 12'x10' or something) The ones layed out right now are 10' by 22' just to give you a frame of reference.

And in the meantime...
Props has been working away on the thrones.
It likes like almost everything is cut out and it is a lot of assembly now but it is hard to tell because the shop is a disaster.

So much for the white floor helping keep it clean. Although I do think it helps...because I know it would be worse if we couldn't see it.

By the end of the day there were little things added to the front which look cool, but they will show up in a later pic.

Albert Herring (the opera)

still going...with a painted floor and lights being hung.

The entranceway with doors (and better pic) to the left. To the right a counter. More to come on this show yet...I know of a really long wagon that I am building right now...a door unit the was worked on today and some kind of counter wagon with shelves...I haven't see the design drawings, haven't really seen the build drawings...just working on stuff.

DanceLight

The first thing when we get back is DanceLight in the Ruah Studio Theatre. This year we added a border across the top of the cyc. There may have been in one in the past I do not recall but this is new and made for this although it is about 10' to long. In the past it has always been a lot of running around and just trying to make random rigging work in the right spots for the legs. Well, this year it is a bit more professional. We went out and special pipe and actaully have it labeled.

We had a great way of making it all work anywhere (set locations though) but the grid has to go and be at different heights. I wonder if anyone has everynoticed the the north, no west...errr unistrut is about 1' lower? Well, we didn't, but now we know it is and it is a gradual change on that side, so not only is it lower than its mirror, but it is lower than itself as well....yeah, go ahead and try and figure out what I was saying.

Wel, whatever all scenery has to do now is layout the dance floor and the lighting people have their lights to hang.

I don't think these funny frames will be continuing for to long, the program that did them is a trial program that runs out in 10 days on this computer and while it would be simple to do thes in photoshop, well, that cuts into bar time.

break?

So ovwe winter break there are 2 things going on...the Opera, Albert Herring and Nathan the Wise paints.

The opera is being TDed by my advisors and the scenery looks wonderful. It is also being built by them. Here are som peeks at 2 of the elements...and no, the photos don't do them justice.

And Nathan the Wise. This is interesting because there are quite a bit of discrepncies between the drawings we built from and the elevations the painters have. So I have spent quite a bit of time running to school to meet with our over-higher paint charge and just spending time on the phone with her. But it is working out so yeah.

This is one of the bigger drops that we have...I think it might actually be the biggest. I should see if I can get a digital copy of rendering to show the process.

And for all those who like strike pictures...sorry for the delay I forgot I never put them up...

Urinetown STRIKE: 7 of us met 4 hours before call and took care of the majority of the set.
